This is an 20″ x 24″ acrylic painting on canvas that is based on the lore of the fairy blast. It is finished with 3 coats of a gloss varnish with a wire hanger on the back.
The stories go that if you wandered too far into the forest, crossed a fairly line or were otherwise in fairy territory, you could receive a blast from a fairy. It could not be seen, only felt, and a mass would grow and grow where you were struck. Perhaps a doctor was called to remove the mass, or perhaps it would burst of it’s own accord, but inside would be troubling objects that had no place in the body; bits of string and sewing needles, bones of fish or birds, sticks and stones or other natural objects. To ward against the fairies you could carry a piece of bread in your pocket, or if you felt their presence in the woods, you could turn a piece of clothing inside out, but it was no guarantee that you’d not be led astray by the fairies or given a blast.
