Our Badges
At Marketspot we wanted to create a platform that celebrates everyone's differences and unites like minded vendors and shoppers; this includes their beliefs, identity, heritage and lifestyle. We created a badge system that easily helps you identify categories of vendors and products. It helps shoppers know how products are made and which communities they support. Our vendors go through a verification process to ensure all the claims about their products are true. This is how they are granted badges. This ensures the quality of products, provides transparency to our shoppers, and guarantees our shoppers get what they paid for.
You will notice these badges on all vendor and product pages. You can even search products by badge if you want to view all products that fit into a specific category. Here is a breakdown of the vendor and product badges to help you make good shopping decisions!
Vendor Badges
Founding Members Badge
A Founding Members badge represents the earliest vendors on Marketspot Online. These vendors are the fabric of our marketplace, hand-selected by the Marketspot. Marketspot emerged as a physical store which still operates today and many of our Founding Members have sold their art and products with us for years prior to the launch of our online platform. When you purchase a product from a Founding Member you can be sure that the quality of these products is exceptional, and the reason they have been hand-selected as Founding Members. |
Indigenous Badge
The Indigenous badge represents a vendor who identifies as a proud person of Canada. Indigenous People is a collective name for the original people of North America. This group is also often referred to as “Aboriginal People”. The Canadian Constitution recognizes three groups of Aboriginal people; First Nations, Inuit and Métis. Each of these groups have their own unique histories, languages, cultural practices and spiritual beliefs. By purchasing a product with an Indigenous Badge you are supporting a local Indigenous creator. |
POC Badge
POC stands for Person of Colour and is a general umbrella term that collectively refers to all people of colour. This includes Black or African American, East Asian, South East Asian, South Asian, and Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander. The POC Badge lets you know that the vendor of this product proudly identifies as a POC. Marketspot celebrates diversity and we want to allow vendors to celebrate their heritage. |
LGBTQIA+ Badge
The LGBTQIA+ Badge lets you know this vendor identifies as someone in the LGBTQIA+ community. LGBTQIA+ stand for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and/or Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual. It is used as an all encompassing term for sexuality and gender identity. |

100% Canadian Made Badge
The 100% Canadian Made Badge lets you know the product you are purchasing is 100% sourced and made in Canada. This means every material/component used in the crafting process of the product is locally sourced within Canada and the product itself is created inside its borders. This badge guarantees our shoppers that this vendor prioritizes nationally-sourced quality materials over foreign alternatives. By purchasing a product with this badge you can feel good about keeping your purchases 100% Canadian. |
Support Pledge Badge
The Support Pledge Badge lets you know that a portion of the product’s proceeds goes to supporting a Canadian based cause, organization or charity that is close to the creator’s heart. All Support Pledge Badge products are verified by Marketspot so you can feel good about your purchase, knowing that you are supporting a Canadian creator and a Canadian organization. It’s like a double feel good! |
Vegan Badge
A Vegan Badge lets you know that the product you are purchasing is 100% vegan friendly. For food products this means the product does not contain any animal ingredients or animal-derived ingredients. For other products it means that no animals or animal products were used in any part of the product creation. By purchasing a product with this badge you can feel good knowing your product is 100% vegan. |
Available In-Store
The In-Store Badge lets you know this product is available at our in-store location. If you’re in Calgary and you want to get a closer look at the item in person, you can visit us at our flagship store located inside Market Mall at 3625 Shaganappi Trail NW. Customizable Badge
The Customizable Badge lets you know that there are custom options available for this product. This could include size, colour, or personalization to the item. If you see this badge on a product page and you don’t see options, it could also mean that the vendor is open to custom order requests and you may need to message them for custom orders. The Customization Badge is very popular for gift items. If you’re looking for a way to personalize an item, you can search by badge to see which products come with a customization option. |

Upcycled Badge
The Upcycled Badge means the product is made from materials that have been certified upcycled. Upcycling represents taking an “old” item and modifying it to give it a second life as it is turned into a “new” item by taking existing items/materials and re-adapting or repurposing in creative ways to create something new. Therefore extending the lifespan of the original item, so you can love it over, and over, and over again. By purchasing a product with this badge you are supporting sustainability. |
